Tokyo, Japan; , Rigaku Corporation, a Rigaku Holdings Group company (headquarters: Akishima, Tokyo; CEO: Jun Kawakami; hereinafter “Rigaku”), and National Taiwan University of Science & Technology (hereinafter “NTUST”), began a joint development project, having earlier concluded a strategic partnership. The partners will conduct research on applications in the fields of frontier materials1 and advanced packaging using 3D image reconstruction technology by means of CT Lab HV, a computed-tomography (CT) scanning device.

CT Lab HV handles specimens ranging widely in size, from small objects to large ones (up to 600 mm in diameter and 1200 mm in height). The device can observe the internal structure of precious specimens non-destructively and with high resolution. In addition to examination of internal structures, CT Lab HV can create simulations of flow rate (volume of a fluid that moves past a point in a given amount of time) and pressure, using 3D image reconstruction technology.
NTUST, a university that supports Taiwan’s high-tech industries, is conducting research on advanced materials and packaging by using Rigaku’s non-destructive analytical technology.
These research results are expected to contribute to the development of next-generation materials and thereby to innovation by customers in high-end manufacturing industries.
Rigaku Group CEO Jun Kawakami commented as follows: “I’m thrilled about this strategic partnership with NTUST. I am confident that this collaboration is the first step in sparking innovation by Rigaku and its customers in the region.”
Chia-Yu Yen , President of NTUST, expressed his gratitude to Rigaku, commenting: “thanks to the support of Rigaku, Taiwan’s high-tech personnel can conduct research using outstanding equipment from Japan., achieving synergistic research results.”
Ming- Chih Chen, Dean of the College of Engineering of NTUST, commented: “This project will dramatically improve the analytical and research capabilities of NTUST related to high-end manufacturing. Going forward, we will use this joint laboratory for a wide range of research and analysis on advanced materials in Taiwan. We also plan to build a database to advance the development of leading-edge, real-time analytical software.”
